Reciclando camiseta en pantalón PAP / Recycling Dad's Tshirt into Baby trhousers

He decidido hacer mi primer post PASO A PASO (PAP). Se trata de un pantalón para bebé (18 meses) reciclado de una camiseta de su padre.

I have decided to do my first post STEP BY STEP (PAP).  It is a baby pair of trousers (18 months old) recycled from his father’s jersey.

Espero que sea claro y les sirva. Está cosido integramente con la Overlock, pero perfectamente se puede hacer con cualquier máquina de coser, por mas sencilla que sea.

Necesitamos:

• Patrón de pantalón (pueden copiar el patrón de un pantalón que ya tengan, pueden usar uno comprado o pueden descargar alguno de los tantos gratis que hay por la web)
• Camiseta de papá ó mamá ó un pedazo de tela que os guste para hacer el pantalón
• Maquina Overlock (Si no tienes maquina overlock, perfectamente pueden hacerlo con la puntada recta de una máquina de coser normal, y  utilizando la puntada ZIG-ZAG para que no se deshilachen repasan los bordes.
• Elástico/Goma para la cintura
• Tijeras y tiza o lápiz para marcar la tela

 We need:

• I hope the explanations are clear and it is useful to you.  It is completely sewed with Overlock, but perfectly it can be done with any sewing machine, even though it is a simple one.
• Father’s or mother’s jersey or a piece of cloth that you like to make a pair of trousers.
• Overlock machine (if you do not have one you can perfectly do it with a straight stitch of a normal sewing machine and using the ZIG-ZAG stitch so that it does not fraying – you must go over the edges.
• Elastic / Rubber for the waist
• Scissors and chalk or fabric marking pen
  
   

Comencemos:

Let’s start:

Primero debemos tener preparadas las piezas del patrón. Yo utilicé uno básico, sin bolsillos ni nada decorativo ya que iba a utilizar una camiseta de mi marido que tiene impresos números y queria aprovecharlos. Yo siempre hago los patrones en papel "manteca" o "papel para patronaje" porque al ser medio translúcido, puedo ver exactamente como quedará la pieza una vez cortada... y seleccionar que parte de la impresión de la tela quiero rescatar.

 

Así pues empezamos poniendo algunos alfileres en la camiseta para que se mantengas juntas la parte frontal y trasera de la prenda (asegurandonos que las costuras laterales queden bien al costado para que al cortar los patrones no estén meditas de por medio), luego colocamos los patrones (la parte delantera y la trasera del pantalón) sobre la camiseta. 

Marcamos y cortamos al mismo tiempo la parte superior e inferior camiseta


First we have to have ready the pieces of the pattern.  I used a basic one, without any pockets or any decoration as I was going to use a jersey of my husband that included some printed numbers and I wanted to use them.  I always make patterns with “wallpaper for patterns” or “butter paper” because one can see exactly how the cloth cut will be .. and chose the part of the printed numbers or design I want to recover for the pair of trousers.

So, let’s start putting some pins on the shirt so to keep together the front and back part of the garment (making sure that the side seams are firmly on the side so when we cut the pattern they are not in the middle).  Then we place the patterns (the front and back of the pair of pant) over the shirt.

We mark and cut at the same time the top and bottom shirt

Los triangulitos que ven al costado del patrón son los PESOS queme hice para mantener los patrones en su lugar a medida que los copio. Están rellenos de piedritas decorativas (esas que venden en tiendas como IKEA, pero puede usar cualquier cosa) Me gustan mucho porque al ser de tela, no son excesivamente pesados ni pueden romper el patrón como si usara piedras, plástico o pesos de metal. No se olviden de identificar cual es la parte delantera y cual es la trasera para luego no equivocarnos al coser (lo digo por propia experiencia)

The triangles that you see on the side of the pattern are the WEIGHTS I used to maintain the patterns in its place as I copied them.  They are filled with decorative little stones (like the ones they sell in stores like IKEA but you can use anything heavy).  I like them a lot because as they are cloth they are not too heavy and can not break the fabric as if you use directly stones, plastic or metal weights.  Do not forget to identify which is the front part and the back so you do not get mistake when sewing (I say this thanks to my own experience).

Ahora toca coser.  Tomamos una parte delantera y su correspondiente trasera y los emprentamos DERECHO con DERECHO (o sea, las partes externas que luego se verán hacia adentro)

Cosemos el lateral externo y la entrepierna (aquí con hilo amarillo). Hacemos lo mismo con ambas piernas

Now it is time to sew.  We take the front part and its corresponding back part and face THE RIGHT WITH THE RIGHT (that means both outside parts so that then they will be in the inside).

Then we sew the external lateral and the inseam (here with yellow threat.  We do the same with both legs.

Luego tomamos una de las piernas y la giramos, con lo cual tendremos una pierna con ls costuras por fuera y la otra por dentro. Tomamos la que acabamos de girar y la colocamos dentro de la que tiene las costuras por fuera, haciendo coincidir nuevamente los DERECHOS, y controlando que la entrepierna quede bien alineada. 

Then, we take one leg and turn, which will have one leg with the seams outside and the other inside.  We take the one we turned and put it inside of the one that has the seams outside, matching the RIGHTS and checking that the crotch is properly aligned.

 

Colocamos alfileres y cosemos todo a lo largo de la entrepierna. 

We put pins and sew all along the crotch (inseam).

Nuestro pantalón va tomando forma. Ahora toca reforzar con la Overlock o con la puntada ZIG-ZAG los bordes de la cintura y los ruedos del pantalón.

Our pants are taking its shape. Now we have to reinforce with Overlock or ZIGZAG stitch the edges of the waist and pant hems.

 Luego giramos hacia adentro el ruedo y cosemos el bajo. 

The we turn the hems to the inside and we sew underneath.

 Ahora solo queda coser la cintura. Aquí hay dos opciones... utilizar un elástico normal, y otro especial que viene con agujeros (muy común en los pantalones de bebés y en los de embarazada) para poder modificar el tamaño del pantalon de manera sencilla. Yo utilicé éste último.

Now we only have to sew the waist.  Here we have to options.  To use a normal elastic or a special one that comes with holes (very common in baby trousers and in the pregnant women) so as to change the size of the pants in a very easy way.  I used the last one.

Cosemos toda la cintura, dejando un zona de unos cuantos centímetros para luego pasar por ahí el elástico con la ayuda de un alfiler de gancho/alfiler de seguridad. Colocamos un botón donde sujetaremos el elástico y LISTO !!! Pantalón terminado

We sew all the waist, leaving a place of some centimetres to put then the elastic with the help of a safety pin.  We put a button where we will adjust the elastic and READY!  Pair of slacks READY!

Pantalones para bebé / Baby pans

Aquí están mis nuevas creaciones para Agu...

Utilicé dos patrones. Uno de Simplicity que compré en la tienda amiga, que viene con todo un ajuar para bebés de 0 a 18 meses. Agu tiene 17 y yo le hago los pantalones con el patrón de 12-18 y les aseguro que le servirá incluso unos cuantos meses mas, ya que son bastantes holgados los patrones.

I used two patterns. One of Simplicity that I bought in a friendly store.  It includes entire outfit for babies from 0-18 months old. Agu is 17 and I will do the pants with the pattern for 12-18.  I am sure it will be useful for even older babies as the patterns are quite baggy.

Para probar otra manera de hacerlo, he intentado sacar un patrón de un pantalón que tien Agu y que le queda muy bien (ya que el de Simplicity parece mas una babucha) y utilicé jersey acanalado.. con lo cual el pantalon le queda comodo, ni ajustado y holgado... y para él que está en una etapa entre arrastrarte y caminar, es estupendo. To try another way to do it, I tried to draw a pattern of pants that tend Agu and fits him very well (since the Simplicity seems more a slipper) using ribbed jersey .. with which pants are very comfortable.   They are not too tight nor loose ... and for him,  that he is in a stage between crawl and walk, it's great. Yo tanto en los tobillos como en las cinturas utilicé tela de puño... aquí le dicen jersey elástico... que es todo acanalado.... asi evito que cuando lo alzamos o gatea, termine con todo el pantalón enrollado en la entrepierna o que se le caigan sin tener que usar elástico.

Both in ankles and at the waists I use fist cloth .... here it is elastic jersey ... all corrugated .... so I avoid that when we raise him or he crawl, he finishes will all the pans rolled up among his crotch or dropping them without having to use elastic.

Comparativa de Overlocks / Overlock's comparative

Hi nice people,

He estado muy ocupada cosiendo y conociendo mi Overlock. Aún me falta mucho por descubrir ! Pero mientras tanto queria compartirles una comparativa de Overlocks que realicé cuando iba a comprarme la mía.

Las maquinas que comparé son las que se encuentran acá en Austria y que cuestan aproximadamente 400€. He tenido en cuenta la variación en el diferencial, cuantos hilos pueden usarse a la vez, si tiene grazo libre o no (Free Arm), el largo max/min de puntada, cuales son hechas internamente todas de metal (algo muy importante y relativo a la durabilidad de la maquina) y si tiene pies accesorios (algunos no, otro vienen incluidos y otros hay que comprarlos aparte)

Espero que les sirva si están por comprarse una.

I have been very busy sewing and getting to know my new Overlock.  I still have a lot to discover about it! But meanwhile I wanted to share with you a comparison of Overlocks I did while I was going to buy mine.

I compared some machines you can buy here in Austria and that are about Euros 400.-  I had in mind the variation of the spread (differential), how many threads can one use at the same time, if it has a free arm or not, the longest the stitch can be, which machines are all inside of metal (something important and related to the lasting of the machine) and if it has some accessory feet (some don’t, some come included and others have but must be bought apart).

I hope all these is useful if you think on buying yourself your own machine.

Ayuda con OVERLOCK !!! / Help with OVERLOCK !!!

Sé que tengo el blog un poco alicaído... y la razón: no tengo tiempo !!! Resulta que ésto de ser madre me ocupa casi todo el día jeje y cuando mi ángel duerme aprovecho para coser. Me surgió viajar a Argentina, así que debo terminar el tapiz de las casitas antes de enero, y preparar un almohadón porta-anillos, unas sábanas, unos baberos, y unas cuantas cositas más que andan dando vuelta y que en cuanto termine compartiré con vosotros.

Hoy quiero aprovechar este post para pedirles consejo. Me quiero comprar una Overlock para confeccionar prendas para mi familia y para mí y algún que otro encargo (con miras a un futuro poder hacer ropa para otros)

Aquí en Austria, en la tienda donde yo compré mi máquina de coser hace un año y medio atrás tienen muchas máquinas, y he seleccionado las que andan entre los 350-450 euros que es lo que me permite mi bolsillo. Sé que aquí en Lidl y en Mediamarkt venden unos modelos por 150 euros... pero me dá que son para cosas muy básicas.

I know that I have the blog a little crestfallen ... and the reason I have no time! Turns out that to be a “whole day” mother takes me all day (smile)  and when my angel is sleeping I make myself some time to sew.  I have the chance to visit Argentina so I have to finish my “houses” tapestry prior to travelling in January and prepare ring bearer pillow, some sheets, some bibs, and more than a few little things lying around and upon termination.  When I finish them I will share all of them with you .

Today I want to make good use of this post to ask you an advise.  I want to buy and Overlock to be able to make clothes for my family and myself and some requests (thinking on the future to make clothes for third parties).
 

Here in Austria, where I bought the sewing maching a year and a half ago they have several different machines and I have chosen those that cost about euros 350 – 450 – my budget.  I know that in Lidl and Mediamarkt they sell some for 150 euros ... but it seems they are to make very basic things.

He leído que hay que prestarle atención al ancho de puntada, a los accesorios que trae, a los pies extras que se pueden comprar, al enhebrado automático, si tienen brazo libre o no...etc, etc y realmente estoy mareada.

Por eso recurro a Ustedes, para saber si han probado o tienen alguno de los modelos de aquí arriba, y que tal les va. Si hay alguno que ande en esta gama de precio y no aparezca pero les restultó bueno, también me encantaría que me lo mencionaran.

Desde ya les agradezco muchísimo !!! Realmente me urge toda la información que puedan darme.

I read that one must be alert on the wide of the stitch, to the accessories that are included in the machine, to  the extra feet that one can buy later on, to the automatic threading, if they have a free arm, etc.


Therefore I request your advise, to know if you have tried or have any of these models (shown above) and how good they are.  If there is another one with about the same price that I have not included hereby, I would love you to mention it.

I am very grateful for your advise !!!  Really I need to know very urgently about them.
